I've done a lot of google searching and forum flipping, but I'm not really seeing the specific info I'm looking for. I have a 3550 in the garage that needs rebuilt. It grinds going into 3rd, so it was pulled in favor of a C4 a few years ago(different car) I've read the 3550/TKO500 and 600 are the same. Are they the same in that the case is the same, or do they also share internals? I will be putting it in a '98 GT with eventual goals of lots of track time(drag) and 350-370fwhp maybe more down the road. Where can I find a rebuild kit, and would this rebuild kit be as strong as the Tko internals or not? D&D has all the parts individually and Hanlon is updating that specific part of their site. Was hoping somebody here could help me out... What do you guys think?

The Internals between a 3550 and the TKO500/600 are different.
The 3550 is not a bad transmission.

Check out Pro Motion powertrain or call/email Bob Hanlon.

The 10-spline input shaft is going to be the 3550's glass jaw if you wanna run slicks. The grinding issue can be remedied by a refresh (cost me $740 last time) and will give you years of service.

Yeah, I'm definately wanting to build a tranny that will take a little abuse at the track. It IS my daily driver, so I have to make sure I can get it to the track, down the track and home from the track. lol

I have a built 3550 that will take any abuse you put it through, I built it to put it behing a 347 turbo but that never happened.
26 spline input and 31 spline output, rebuild internals etc etc.. I have a full swap bellhousing and all you need. 0 miles on transmission
if you are interested hit me up.

There is a lot of bad info on tremec 3550 transmissions .. The 3550 is a amazing trans and the only difference between the tko500 and the 3550 is the output shaft..
Read this it tells you a lot about the trans .. I have a 480plus rwhp mustang and my trans holds with ease its truly and amazing transmission and the only weak leak is the output shaft witch can break if you launch the car hard with slicks .. There are a lot of guys running 300 to 700hp with these trans and they hold so trust me get one .

Also my transmission shifts way better then my t5 ever did and i love the gear ratio

modo hopefully he still around here, he can chime in.
Yep, 3550 its the best transmission for the $$.
you can change the input and output easily on the 3550 and will hold A LOT!

Here is a vid of Modo's pass.. untouched 3550

As much as I'd love to snag it up, I don't have the funding... That's why I was gonna just start buying what I needed for the one I've got. I wish I had the money for it. Would make life easier and move things along much quicker.

I ran my 3550 for quite awhile on slicks and in the 12's and never had any issues with it. I'm sure it will handle the new power as well if I ever want to finish what I started.

I had one in my 95, beat the crap out of that thing with 0 issues ever. Biggest issue was getting it aligned properly within 1 degree DS angle factory spec. Mod motors don't have this issue if you want to pay for an adapter that bolts to the factory crossmember and puts it right where it needs to be.

Heck, Javi you have a PM. I'm still up in the air doing a auto swap even though I have most of the parts. Could always sell them and a built 0 mile 3550 is pretty much bulletproof or as bulletproof as a manual can be.
