Underdrive Pulleys for 5.0

I have read several articles about underdrive pulleys. My water pump pulley is warped. I thought it was my water pump shaft, but after installing a new water pump, the pulley still has a wobble. The old water pump was stock and the car is a 1994 GT, so I'm glad that I got a new pump.

Question:

I saw these pulleys online. Since I need a new water pump pulley anyway, do you think that this is a good deal or waste of money?

Here is the link:

http://www.uprproducts.com/mustang-billet-pulley-kit-94.html

The car has a new engine with 2000 miles on it, built by Holcombe Motorsports, new transmission, and rebuilt gearbox with 3:73's. The previous owner was going to race it on the weekends, but ran into some money problems due to the economy. He let it sit in a shed for 2 years until I bought it from him last year. I replaced the power steering pump, due to squealing, some of the cooling system, steering rack ( due to leak )

I only need the pulleys and a front end alignment, and it will be ready for the road.

You will not put them on and then take off and say,"Wow, I can really feel a difference!" the way you had hoped. What you will notice is that at idle the alt will just barely make enough power to keep things dimly lit and might need to rest yer foot on the gas if you have the AC on.

I have a set for sale, I ran only the crank puley on 408w in my 94 and had over heating problems
On a stock 5.0 will work fine but will make very litle diferance in power , know if U are running 2800 RPM's at 60 MPH I would recomend the set

Thanks!

I learned the hard way. I appreciate the offer, but I will never buy anymore used pulleys. The last set that I bought were used. When I got them 2 of the are warped. You really can't see the warp but if you measure them they are off, and wobble. The guy on ebay will not give me my money back. He said that I screwed up the pulleys.

I think someone tried to pry the power steering pulley off instead of using a puller and the water pump pulley is warped.
I will just get some new ones from now on.

I'd stick with stock sized pulleys. I've yet to hear anyone who says good things about them. I don't consider "I didn't gain anything but no problems" to be a good thing either.

All of the guys around here have been telling me to get them. They are crazy about them for some reason. Most of them don't have AC, power steering, or a radio in the car. They just race their Mustangs, so I guess the alternator charges okay with the underdrive pulley.

no. that's what most everybody is trying to tell you.
The alt. can't make enough volts at idle with UDP's. And it's worse if you have a big stereo system in the car too.
Some guys have had luck with leaving the UDP off of the alt.
