Valve clatter at higher RPMs?

I'm having some valve clatter (or some kind of noise that sounds similar) at RPMs above 3800. Anytime I get about that high, there is some kind of noise that sounds like valve clatter coming from the engine. What could it be? If it is valve clatter, why are they clattering? 94 GT 5.0

It might be pinging, how far is your timing advanced, or is it running hotter than normal?

Well it was running hotter than normal, but here in the last month it has stopped doing that. I have my timing set at 13, I think. I guess I'll try backing it off.

Are you running supreme gas. Try that see if it works

No I am running 87. I'll try supreme gas first.

When you up your timing its allways a good idea to use higher octane gas. Thas the down side to adding timing.

Yeah ok the car don't like 87 octane lol. Put in some 93, and the problem is gone.

Doesn't even run right with 87. At idle it feels like its missing or something.

I seen your on dfwmustangs so am I. Anyways thats the trade off. timing is not free hp. You pay for it at the pump
