it only happens in 5th gear. no noise,it shifts fine. so i thought that the driveshaft may be the problem. i replaced it with an aluminum unit. still have the issue. next thing is a harmonic balance but if i downshift to forth from 5th the shake is gone. is there a bushing in the rear of the trans? if so can i rep[lace it? with the trans in the car?

Seems all it takes is the removal of the DS, tailshaft housing. Then having a new bushing pressed into place. Is there a lot of scoring on the original DS's yolk?

i just looked at the rs. there is no scoring . hardly no where at all. it has 165000 miles on it.

Well, as you wrote in the 1st post, I would inspect the vib dampener next for separation. The 5.0's seem to exibit dampner problems more often than the 4.6's.

OK my quads are leaking bad. so i ordered new ones. also the harmonic dampener should be here any day. there is nothing leaking on the car. so we'll see how this stuff works. At rate I'm going every part with the exception of the body will have been replaced or at least upgraded. I my even fix the air or save some weight and just take it all out. not sure on that one.

Did you inspect the current VD before ordering and throwing money at a new one? There is usually a very visual seperation of the rubber and the dampner when it does it's self destruct act.

Do a search on the VD replacement operation. You may need a few tools.

it was the harmonic balance. i pulled my old one off you could clearly see where they were coming apart. it runs really good now. i had forgotten how quick she really is.
