wacked speedo

so...next issue with my 95 is the speedometer is jumping around like it's being electricuted...never had an issue till my alt was acting up...now alt is working fine and speedo is jumping around all silly!!!

It might be the plastic gear on the VSS. Or the cluster is possessed.
I have a similar prob. When I start moving my speedo will go straight to 110mph and stay there regardless or speed changes. Sometimes as I slow down the needle will all the way around to the under side of the pin then back to 110 shen I speed back up.
If I tap on the cluster as I drive sometimes it will read correctly and sometimes not. So I'm sure my prob is in the cluster. But where.
the last time I has the cluster out I added a "paper shim" under the PCB on the back of the cluster so the 2 connectors would make better contact. It seems to have helped but I think I need another to cure it completely.

your alt problem was behind the dash in the end wasn't it? Take it out and just inspect that you put it all back together correctly and while its out then check out that gear.

that was the first thing i did....maybe have to do it again....

so the odometer works, but not the speedo. seems to be some sort of short

i was wrong about the odometer and trip working...all three are out

finally got a chance to climb under the car and check the speedo sending unit. broken wire. right at the base of the plug. took the plug apart a repaired. plugged back in and speedo working fine. i did take apart to instrument clster to check teh gears. they were all good!!!

i was realy tripping out cause i had took out my instrument cluster to fix the alt problem????? i'm thinking i may have to get polyurethane tranny mount now?
