stick with us. ;) we wont lead you astray. .. :p

I had a complete brain fart that just snowballed. I put the effin pinch bolt back in the pinch collar of the steering shaft from the wrong side. It took me way too long to find out why I had all that play in the wheel.

Where on the rag joint did you weld it solid?

Took a look at the steering shaft this weekend, nothing looked out of the ordinary. I think I'll go through it and make sure the new tie rods/ball joints were greased properly. Other than that I believe it's the PS pump or rack at this point...

In normal driving there's no slop or play other than the twitchiness from the screwed-up alignment.

You only hear it in slow-speed (less than 5 mph) parking lot maneuvers/3-point turns, and only when backing up to the left.

Another update

Got under the front end today. First time since the work was done. I noticed immediately that the boots appeared totally collapsed; both the outer tie rods and ball joints needed re-greased.

Did that and the groan is still there. It is harder to turn the wheel one way than the other. Can I assume bad steering shaft? Had a few knowledgeable buddies rule out the PS pump.

Killing me here... need to keep it in top shape, my sister has already stepped up to buy it...

If anyone is still reading this- update 10/20- I greased every joint in the steering column, no difference. However I noticed the groaning nearly disappeared one the car was driven a little attempting the same 3pt turns.
