(around 14-16 seconds you can hear it and then again at 2:19 i believe)
sound occurs during start up, sound like a clicking or chattering. Seems to be coming from under the hood, and i have no idea what it is.

hm... im no engine guru but it could be the starter spooling down? i know on my dads avalanche the starter makes ticking noises after the engine starts.

Sounds like either the starter which is stated, or pulley system in on the engine, I know when they do not move for a while they tend to make odd noises.

That was my guess too. Like I told him @ MB my Mountaineer does basically the same thing, but only when it's cold. My mountaineer came from Michigan so it has some surface rust on the underside and the Starter is probably beginning to see the effects of that.

Vid of the Mountaineer. Really does it @ the 50 sec. mark.

only way to find out is here....
1) take off the serpentine belt and start the car see if the noise is there...
2) pop start the car :) you dont use the starter and if the noise is here you know its NOT the starter...

Yep, that would be a good way to test it. In my case I know it's not the belt, I already got some belt dressing and checked it. Plus considering it were a problem with the belt, chances are that the sound would be faily constant, not only when the car starts.

Yeah I can see it being the starter, iv had the car since June 09 and the belt has been replaced. The battery terminals have zero corrosion, and the sound only occurs at start up. Thanks for all help dudes.

it may not be a belt problem BUT a pulley problem ie p/s pump when real cold or first started will suck some air in and then cause a noise.... common with caravans :)

I had the same problem with my 98 GT. I replaced the pulley on the tensioner and the pulley just above it.
