Now that I got my PI motor installed, I was thinking about doing cams this summer. Anyone have any ideas on what to use. I'm not gonna do a blower for a long time so I'm looking for something that will put the car to a new level. I wanted to do cams before I put the new engine in but I didn't have money at the time so I wanna start saving up. Whats everyones thoughts?

you'll have to think about your goals too. and how far you want to go. theirs cams that will just slide in and have mild lifts and duration. then you can go a little more extreme, but you will have to change out your springs and such. its a matter of how far you wanna go. i'm learning about all this in my other thread, jr is teaching lol.

Cushman Stage II N/A's with some Manley nextek springs will put it to a new level, like +50 or more rwhp level. That's like a new car, lol.

check the specs on the cams. do you want just peak hp or do you want low and midrange power too? it all depends on ur goals.

i chose comp 268's because i liked the more mid range power they have. dont have to rev to 7000rpm. haha

I didn't need to rev my stage II VT's to 7k, peak power came in at 5800, I carried over 300 lb/ft throughout the entire pull.

well, i thought my cams were decent. pulled like a MF from 3300 up to 5800. never got it up higher than that because of the tune i had on it... But they were the closest to the custom grind that i came up with. the custom grinds would have had only 60 thousands of clearance on the intake valve... thats the only reason i didnt go with that. the new ones for next season will be a full blown N/A 350+ plus a 175 shot or a 250 two stage...

Comp grinds with too much LSA, grinds in that lame ass advance, and uses about the slowest ramp rate they can find.

Of course any cam is an improvement, but there's no way in hell I'd buy a set new for 500 when you can get a much more modern grind for 100 more.

I think the cam choice depends on the combo of the car... for my combo they were the best out there for all round performance, but for other combos i worked up the Hitech stage 2s were better... It all depends IMO.
