What could cause a tire to do this?

^^ Are our cars the same then too right as we have Solid rear axles, because I always get thrust alignment because you can't adjust the rear on it....

anything w/ a solid rear axle is like that.

Correct, any vehicle with a Solid Rear Axle has the potential to "dog track". Although, every vehicle, whether Independent rear, or Solid axle, has
a thrust angle, But Ideally the Thurst angle should be at Zero.. And just to clarify, the Thrust angle is a measurement of the thrust line compared
to the imaginary centerline down the center of the vehicle... And, it is possible for a brand new vehicle to have a thrust angle other than zero..
It could be something as small as the way the Rear Axle was bolted into the chassis, or some small imperfection in the rear of the frame..
My 1995 GT has a thrust angle of 0.29, and my 1994 GT has a thrust angle of 0.21... Anything less than appox 0.50 isn't too major.. Above that
half degree, and something is bent..

Well I said dogtracking because that is the only word I know for that!LOL! I have aligned front wheel drive cars that drive sideways because the rear was way out of alignment, if you have one wheel toed in and one toed out, the car will do the same as if it was a solid rear axle. Not wanting to get into a big alignment debate, just take the car to another alignment shop, get it aligned, go to a tire shop and get some new tires, I work at a dealership and I am amazed how some of those so called techs with all kinds of ASEs even work on cars.

I guess she has a friend that works there so thats why she went there but she was also told by that person that the cars are not actually given an inspection that are on that part of the lot they just thow a sticker on it. Wonder if the alignment on this car is f'ed and got worse to the point of where it is at now. I think she might have me go in with her sometime this week but I dont know anything about FWD or honda's so thats why this thread is here lol

Do not pay $650 for 4 tires/align.... If memory serves me correct her tire size on her Civic should be a 205/55/16...
Firestone (where I work), has house brand, 40,000 mile tires starting at $88/ea, with something nicer like a Firehawk
Wideoval for around $430/set installed. Here's a link to Tireracks listings to look around for that size:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?width=205%2F&ratio=55&diameter=16&x=44&y=9
I wouldn't go back to that dealership to talk to them about prices, etc, even if she does know people there, it just
sounds like they didn't do their job correctly the first time.
I punched in a quote.. 4 house brand tires, 40,000 miles, Lifetime balance, road hazard protection, with a one time alignment
is $554 after tax and everything.. Without road hazard and with a one time balance it would be under $500, but it's best to get the
tires rebalanced around every 5,000mi to get good mileage out of them.
