When I'm driving and I push in the clutch to shift, the RPMs go up like 500 RPMs until i let of the clutch. If I'm coasting in neutral the RPMs stay around 1700 until I come to a complete stop, then they level out around 800 RPMs. Also when I launch from 1st and shift into 2nd and 3rd real fast, the car makes like a backfire. Any advice you guys could give me to figure out the problem?? Thanks in advance!

first try cleaning the maf and iac to see if that makes a diff. the high idle is a prob with these cars. tps could need adj. back firing might be a timing issue, what it's set at.

You need a strobe light aimed at the timing pointer at idle speed with the little grey spout connector removed that sits near the air filter while you check it.
10 degrees BTDC is stock [well for some anyway]
