What is that thing that happens to the 94-95's

What is that thing that happens to the 94-95 cars, where the engine will just turn over and never start? I'm not having this problem now, but I thought I'd better become familiar with it. I've been around and worked on more than a few 94-95's in my day, and there seems to be some distributor problem that eventually plagues them all. Back in my teens, when I knew little about cars, I had to take mine to the ford house for this problem. For some reason, the bill stated that they actually replaced the whole distributor lol. And it was $404 total. But, the problem was gone. I'm thinking that this problem must have something to do with the pickup coil or something. Are they known to eventually go bad? I've seen this problem happen on too many stangs to count, so I know it must be some kind of factory defect or something.

It's the Hall Effect sensor or PIP (Profile Ignition Pickup) sensor.

what kind of ford springs i have c springs and it seems like mine still sits pretty high, i know it dosent look like it in my sig but it does btw love the paint

It is not a factory or design defect...it is merely a wear item...they go for 100,000 miles or more quite often. Mine is still original at 151k & 17 years so I won't feel bad at all when/if it goes bad.

I Really don't know what springs they are I got them used off craigslist but i know they are ford motorsports

The design defect is not with the original equipment, but it does seem that the aftermarket replacements are not of original quality. The pip sensors tend to be of poor quality when rebuilt, for some reason. I have had to replace it 3 times AFTER the factory unit went south with 149k on the clock.

It's because alot of the time when they rebiuld them they dont replace everything electronics wise at least thats what the guy at shucks said when I asked him why the "rebuilt" dizzys were so shitty. :angry7:

The ford rebuilts are very expensive. I've had the best luck (so far) at Advance Auto Parts. They give you a lifetime warrantee on the distributor and all its parts. So if you have a failure in the future, just bring it back to them and they will give you a free replacement. Not pro-rated, but completely free. The guy told me I wouldn't even need the receipt if I had a problem.

Total cost was about $120.00 after returning the core, and it took about 20 minutes to install with only a 1/2" socket and a ratchet.

My advice, tho, is if you aren't having a problem with it, don't mess with it.
