What is this?

What is this and where does the other end of the vacumme line go? It is located on the passenger side firewall.

Part of the smog system. I believe it's a solenoid of some sort and it attaches to the charcoal canister. Not 100% on that though. I imagine the vacuum line could also potentially go to the group of solenoids/valves bolted up in the passenger inner fender as well.

Paul, you are correct it is a charcoal canister for the smog system. I just moved
mine last night so it is no longer visible under the hood.

So if I just unplug it and remove it toally will it be ok? Or does this need to be there?

You guys are all off (except Paul). The Carbon Canister is under your fender. What you are looking at there is called the canister purge solenoid. It's function is to allow the vapors collected in the carbon canister to flow into the intake. Without a tune, I do not believe it will run properly without it connected.

The vacuum lines go into your intake, and in the other direction into your charcoal canister under the passenger fender. From there the line goes to a hard line that goes to the gas tank.

Thanks to ALL of you! I guess I will hook a "T" somewhere in the lines and get that hooked back up. I had shoved it in the corner and just found it when I was putting the finishing touches on. Of course after 5 months..... I forgot where it went.

And THANKS for those nice diagrams, where do you get those from?
