What is this

I am disassembling a 302 truck engine for a project I'm working on and this is on the block next to the oil filter and mechanical fuel pump. Any ideas?

Where does it go and can I tap into it for a gauge?

It screws into the block and goes right next to the oil filter.

Actually not a sending unit, but an extension to connect the sending unit. Screws into the port beside the filter. Yours already has a fitting on it for a mechanical gauge. If you are running an electric gauge just adapt your sending unit to it in place of the mechanical gauge fitting.
