Maybe a newbie question, but I just got a 94 GT not too long ago, and I was wondering what kind of synthetic oil everyone uses on these 5.0 motors? My car is basically stock, and I have no idea how many quarts or what weight oil the 5.0 takes?

A lot of people here seem to use Mobil 1 and a few others are starting to go to AmsOil cause they like it better.

I'm planning on Mobil 1 whenever I have to change my oil just because its more common around here.

5 quarts of 10-30 is what it calls for in the oil place I worked at. I use castrol snytec. Wix, k&n, and mobil1 are my filters of choice. Stay clear of fram, they are garbage.

5 Quarts of Mobil 1 Synthetic and a FOMOCO filter. I now the stock gauges are not that great but I swear when I used Fram filters the oil pressure gauge always read low.

I would beware of changing over to synthetic oil... Its extremely good oil and very efficient, but if the car has 100k or so, I'd think it out before putting it in the motor... Synthetic is much much thinner, working at Advance for three years, I seen a lot of people switch and a lot of them coming back fussing about the motor pouring oil around the seals... Seems like it finds its way out of those dated seals and it really causes a problem... Just some food for thought... Good luck... But I would probably be in the AmsOil boat myself if I was going to use it... Very expensive, but tested many times showing the best results

^1. ive heard that running synthetic in a high mileage motor will only decrease your engines life. Unless its a special high mileage synthetic blend, but My dad has been a mechaninc for 30+ years and hes the one who told me this. I run Mobil 1 with a FOMOCO filter. AMS is the best in tests but expensive.
