Hey guys,

I just picked up a 98 Cobra last weekend. Built aluminum block, vortech v1 on 10 psi, full suspension. It supposedly dynoed at 470 wheel. After driving it felt very very manageable like way more so than I figured after never driving a car with this much HP (just sold a z28 with 380whp). I actually have my doubts that it even has that much and doesn’t feel crazy to me.
Anyway I’m curious to know steps could be taken to pull more out of it? Also what’s a safe reliable HP range to shoot for? My friend who also owns a cobra said it’s capable of a lot more.. I will post the build sheet below.

looks like its already had the heads ported although it does not say what kind. It also doesn't mention the cams and both of these might be able to add power.

Assuming it’s the lowest budget forged build. I mean even then 470 seems mild right? I’m going to get ahold of the shop and see if I can get more details.

If I read that build sheet right they put 03/04 cams in it which is less desirable than the stock 96-98 cams as they have less duration so theres a bit of power down there.

Find out the internals of the engine and that can tell us how strong it is. (Rods, pistons, bolts or arp studded, etc) And see if they can tell you the rings and what they're gapped at. But assuming 470 is accurate that's a good amount of power and unless the rest of the car is built (transmission, rearend) id do those before adding more power.

In addition to trans and rear end upgrades, chassis stiffening, suspension, and brakes should also be addressed if not already done.

EDIT: ... even if you *dont* add more power.

Welp put my car on the scanner and it’s calling for a closed IMRC.. it barely pulled on a stock LS car last night. Hard telling how much power that is robbing. Getting this addressed and depending on what kind of difference it makes I may not have interest in adding any more power..
