well since your only doing the basic gt40p setup, which is nothing big thats a stock cobra pair of heads or explorer which is like 1 step above stock e7 heads, so alot of guys run the stock gt cam with 1.7 cobra rockers, or a small ford racing B OR E cam with 1.6 rockers, or trickflow stage 1 cam with 1.6 rockers or the steeda 19 cam with 1.6 rockers all of which have under .500 lift around .470-.490 lift. perfect for gt40 heads anything bigger or agressive you would want a built motor like a 306 bored .30/.40 over h/c/i motor or 331 stroker / higher compression or aluminum h/c/i setups. all of which would be well over .500+ lift which requires much larger valve springs and flowing heads or work done to the gt40 heads.

I used a crower 15511. Cam has a small lope when cold but after it warms up sound kinda stock to me. Just barly enough cam to make people wonder if it's camed or not. The p heads and cam made alot of difference ubove 4000 rpm.
I also hear the tfs1 works well with the p heads. That would be the better route if your Lookin for a bigger cam sound. My crower cam us a sleeper.

I also have P heads (see sig for mods). And im running a B cam with stock cobra rockers. Now my heads have been freshend up with minor polishing and my setup have proven flawless. Now I did the whole deal at the same time, new block, heads, cam, TF intake so obviously the gains were well above stock.

its not the lift that causes issues its the valve timing. try to keep the intake opening event as close to BTDC as you can, do some poking around and you'll see what I mean. if its a mild cam -7 may be ok, if its wild -4 might be too much depending on what the lift is at any given duration.

that said e cam, crane 2031, WBR 1087, stg 1 TFS, or the lunati mentioned above.
