I blew my engine the other day (threw a rod i think) so I'm looking at buying a new shortblock. There is a shortblock I'm going to look at tomorrow, a 347 with all new machine work and the stroker kit is also new. What all should I look for when buying the shortblock?

is it brand new never run? if they let you have a look at the bottom end and maybe look under a main or two. have it rotated to see it will turn smoothly.

X2. You might even want to bring some of your own tools to check it out. feel the cylinder walls for any scoring,
maybe bring a flashlight or something to check out the oil passages.. etc...

well, i picked it up today! he had all the paper work for all of the work done to it and it was EXTREMELY clean, even the clearance for the rods. Should be putting it on the engine stand tomorrow and will be getting to work on it soon. I'll post some pics also.

What are the specs on it and how much was it?

Ie: what kind of block/crank/rods/pistons/compression?

stock block, cleaned and bored 30 over and honed. also had a line honing done to the main caps and all the plugs replaced.
then, it had an eagle/keith black 347 rotating assembly put in, balanced by eagle, and I have the serial number and balance numbers on a card also. It also came with a new balancer and flexplate (i have a manual, so i'll be still using my flywheel).

kit included eagle cast crank, forged i beam rods, and hyperteutetic pistons which should be around 10.2 compression ratio with the ported windsor sr heads.

here are some pics of whats going on the engine. I'll be using ported windsor senior, a ported typhoon intake, and a trickflow stage 1 cam with 1.7 rockers (i really liked that cam when i had it in my 302, and i will change it out later down the road for a custom one).

sorry again, i need to get something other than cardomain, these pics are huge.

Wait to install it until you can get a cam. The TFS stage 1 cam is not going to do much for you. That is a cam for a 302, not a 347. If you do the job twice your going to have to buy new pushrods etc.

Do the job once mang.

How much was it?
