so like a whirring noise that definately sounds like a TO bearing.... The little to no stiffness could be a failed TO bearing and also maybe a pressure plate failure... The pressure plate is what your feeling when you push the clutch in. Your TO bearing rides on your Tranny input shaft and is held in place by your clutch fork.... I would say go ahead and do a clutch kit... While your at it replace the TO bearing with a all metal one from ford don't use a Timkin there plastic and i will never use another one again. I just used one on my new clutch i put in and it does nothing but whine like my old one. While your down there go ahead and replace the Pilot bearing also... if your feeling ambitious you can also change out the rear main and the tail shaft seal.
