If you don't know how much is already in there, then you are just guessing by pouring it in through the shifter. Go underneath and on the right side find the upper plug...it just takes a 3/8" drive ratchet to remove. Squeeze fluid in until it drips out and you know its full...and not OVER full. So you can jack up the car a bit, remove a plug, filll, insert plug....OR you can remove the shifter bezel, screw around with 8 damn bolts etc...and not even be sure you put enough in.

doubtful....how is your clutch engagement? High in the pedal travel or close to the floor?>

I have found that the best way to do this is a combo of both ways mentioned. Remove the fill plug and fill through the shifter until it comes out the fill plug. But that is if everything is already apart. Otherwise I say do like RyClef says. But you will need a plastic hose to put from the end of the oil container into the fill hole. There is no room to get the oil bottle into the hole.

If I remeber right it takes Mercon ATF, not gear oil.

But IMO it is not low on fluid. You either have a clutch problem or a synchro plrobem.

Agreed, fluid has absolutely nothing to do with hard engagement, it has everything to do with bearing noise and wear. Sounds like a clutch cable about to bite the dust.

Also remember you cant be low on tranny fluid unless you have a leak or didnt fill it right the first time

i know im not leaking, ive checked, and my clutch only hits the floor when im turning it on, other wise it doesnt hit the floor when i go into gear, i drove a saleen yesturday and the clutch pedal on it slightly higher than the brake pedal, is that how its supposed to be? will i clutch adjuster cure the problem?

sounds like your cable has stretched a bit and yes an adjuster will help that....you can fine tune where you want it to disengage. You want it to be high in the sweep of travel. I.E. push it in about 3/4" and it will start to slip.....don't have it SO tight that it has too MUCH tension on the throw out bearing but it will ensure proper and complete disengagement between gears.

sounds like you should have someone show you how to adjust it. It's really easy but some people just make it harder than it is, and keep screwing with it. generally it's a set it and forget it deal. as stated above, you want it to have some freeplay at the top and yet not be on the floor to disengage it.

will it be hard to adjust once i get the adjuster? can i go thru diffrent positions?

Its not hard at all....get a quadrant and firewall adjuster that is compatible with a stock cable. Shop around. Some will not work with a stock cable. Alot of people have broken cables that weren't OEM. I personally had good luck with UPR's cable but I know alot who weren't as lucky. Do some research online. There is a ton of write ups on how to install them. The hardest part is folding yourself up under the dash to get to the assembly but once its all installed, adjusting everything is a snap.

I've never EVER used any type of sealant on the shifter of any mustang I've pulled the shifter off of and have never had any fluid leak out. How are you filling it up? Are you filling it to the top? If so that is entirely too much fluid for the tranny.
