where to find engine vin

well i changed the oil in my 96 gt today and for some reason it took 6 quarts of oil to fill it perfectly. this is strange because my haynes manual says 96 and earlier 4.6's take 5 quarts. it's either one of three things; i'm going crazy, my haynes manual is wrong, or my engine is not the original. does anyone know where i can find the engine's vin number?

wow, my bad i totally worded the question wrong. where can i find the vin number stamped on the engine?

casting number should be posted on the block passenger side by the tranny bell housing inspection plate.

They take 6 quarts anyway. The vin is on the back of the block
