I need more power out of my car, so i'm looking to get a mild cam. I'm debating on either the Ford racing f303 or the crane cams 2031?

I want a good mild cam for NA, but eventually I'm gonna put a blower on.

My current mods are cobra intake, gt40 heads port and polished, and under drive pullies. I know I need to get cobra 1.7 Roller rockers, but what cam would be the best bang for the buck?

The 2031 is by far a lot better cam then the F-303.

The 2031 is a good design, it does not have a lot of intake duration but it pushes very well on the exhaust side.

If you do purchase that cam, make sure you have 1.7 Rockers.

Out of curiousity does that cam NEED the 1.7 rockers? Or do you just recommend it? And why? (Not trying to thread jack, just trying to learn)

The only way to learn is to ask questions :)

That cam is designed to work with 1.7's That doesn't mean it won't work with 1.6's but your not going to get the potential and power it is designed for.

With the 1.7's that cam is 214/220 .513/.528 with a 112 Lobe seperation.
(ie: intake/Exhaust .intake/.exhaust)

With 1.6's it would be 214/220 .483/498 with a 112 Lobe seperation.

F303 cam is dual pattern. Ford cylinder heads flow great on the intake, there is not much of a problem. Ford heads don't flow very well on the exhaust side.

The F cam is a dual pattern it is the same on the intake and exhaust.

226/226 .512/.512 with a 114 Lobe seperation

Thanks, very helpful explanation. So if you got better heads that flow better on the exhaust stroke, then the F303 might be ok? But then the Crane Cams 2031 would probably still be better? And a custom cam the best?

Custom is always the best.

But with the mods you listed and if you just want some more oomph on the cheap(as cheap as cam swaps get anyway...) an OTS cam is fine.

However if you don't have the cam yet, you don't NEED to get 1.7s or anything. The 2030 is the same thing as the 2031 but its designed for 1.6s so if you want to run a powermax cam you're not stuck with having to get 1.7s for a 2031 like everyone seems to think.

The TFS1 cam is great too as are the Comp Xtreme Energy cams(I love the **** out of mine). Just remember that SN95 computers are finicky and some cams make them go nuts. Nothing a good tuner can't sort out but if you want something you can just throw in (well, you DO have to measure for correct pushrods when you change the cam) and "tune" with the idle set screw and fuel pressure the 2030/2031 are proven winners.

btw i have a f303 that im puting in
and if im not mistaken its the biggest lift u can get without the valves nailing your pistons
isnt it at .518 you hit the piston?
so with hat 2031 you will need notched pistions no?

I went the Custom Cam Route from FTI. The cam is still not in yet between extra expenses and delays I have yet been able to get it into my friends shop to get it done. Im hoping next week will be the week.
