wraping headers yes or no?

just wondering if i should wrap my headers under hood temps a lil to hot. changed stat, dual fans (from lincoln continental), and stock rad. definitely header heat but just wanted to know if anyone has wraped and is it easy.

i've heard, and have experienced, accelerated header diteriation(sp?) when having headers wrapped. Its better to have them jet coated or ceramic coated.

I've hard the same thing also over on the corral when looking through some threads about Header wrapping.

Only wrap them if you hate them and want them to rust out sooner so you can replace them.

If you need new headers just get Ceramic coated.

definitely don't wrap them.... I wrapped my headers, then it got caught on something when I took them out, and I ripped the wrapping.

So I pulled the wrap off, and holy shit, my headers look like CRAP.

BTW, they have only been on the motor for about 500 miles or so

Mine are wrapped. I think the problem lies in two things. 1) it holds in excess heat and if you have cheap headers made out of just plain jane aluminized steel and not stainless...it will cause the metal to fail faster. 2) if it gets WET and doesn't dry off (i.e. by running the car long enough) this can cause accelerated corrosion.

HOWEVER, my Macs were dirt cheap and I have gotten MORE than my money's worth out of them...plus it looks fuggin gangster compared to...well...shitty rusty macs.

Most race cars wrap the headers to keep the heat in for better scavenging which equals better performance.

That or they are coated. More of your high dollar race cars just go coated.

x2....they're not going to fall apart like...next week. We're talking a couple years probably. Mine have been wrapped a good while with no issue. Just be SURE to start that wrap like...2" away from the flanges OTHERWISE, its a ROYAL BITCH to get a wrench in there to tightened up the bolts. I use socket head holts on my macs and didn't think about that first.

thanks for the info everyone, since im a gangsta anyone im goin gangsta. i brought black wrap yesterday @ the pinks all out show in englishtown. the guy also said, since i drive the car three or more times a week the moisture will be burnt off anyway so it's not a problem.

That might be... never thought of that. I wrapped the shitty Summit ones on my truck up and they were gone in about 16 months, neat thing about header wrap, i didn't even know I blew holes in the tubes until I fired it up, but my truck sits alot.
