My car had an AIWA deck and CD changer in it when I got it. Both sucked. Both have been thrown out.

It's finally getting to me driving around without a damn stereo...

Only thing that sucks, as you'll see in this pic, is that the stock wiring was badly pwnt by whoever did the install. The black wire hanging down to almost the shifter was there for the CD changer that has since been junked.

(The floor was since vacuumed LOL)

My car has the Mach 460 and it looks like I'll be wiring around all the Mach stuff- just the radio and the speakers- I suck at audio so even this is a challenge for me!

I have a Pioneer DEH3900 MP deck from my Marquis that I'm putting in.

I was hoping to get a pigtail from a junk car so I could get all this wiring back to stock (then I could rearrange the wires to decency using factory parts and everything is color-coded). Prestige Mustang won't sell just the pigtail, they want $100 for the whole harness. Well F that!

That's exactly what I want to do- I want to try to keep the Mach stuff intact but with my Pioneer HU instead of the Ford HU. My ol' man took a look at the wiring, just as you see it in the pic, he thinks it's too hacked up to play with... The black pigtail plugged into the back of the Aiwa but will not plug into the back of the Pioneer (different size altogether)

Alls I know is if I can get away with what is there now, I'll be happy... I'm not a huge audiophile as long as it's reasonably loud and has some bass. I'm sure the Mach stuff can take care of that.

Should also add that I was snooping around and found this thread

I'll need this stuff, right?

Crutchfield sells the adapter to make it work.

Looking at the picture it appears that the prior owner tapped into the harness instead of getting the adapter for the stereo.

you should be able to see which plug is for the old aftermarket unit, trace those wires to where they are tapped in and remove them. Then just tape up the bare wires and start over with the harness from crutchfield.

I still have the harnesses from the Mercury- the gray one looks like a match for the Stang, and the black one I can just deep-six the Aiwa pigtail and tap into what's left of the wires. I looked at what I kept from the Pioneer and I'm thinking this can be done. ..

Tomorrow I'll really dig in and see what I need from Crutchfield- but after looking at what I kept from the Pioneer I think I'm gonna be OK. Will update tomorrow.

Thanks scarface!

Honestly it sucks to say cause itis a major pain in the ass but if you just rewire it you will be alot better off cause the mach system isnt to good with a after market deck the amps dont do anything, and the speakers dont sound very good. I would say just run new swire to each speaker. Like keep all the speaker positions from the mach system but just run new wires to each one before hooking things up.

Update... Ordered the Scosche adapter stuff from crutchfield.com (see the link elsewhere in this thread). Should have tunes later this week...

916_5.0 thanks for your input, will keep it in mind- at the moment I just want the stereo in- the Crutchfield stuff is supposed to help sound quality. The AIWA that was in there didn't have the system integration adapter (check out my earlier post on this) and that's part of why the sound was awful. If I'm still not happy I'll (ugh lol) rewire in the future.

Well after a couple of months with my Pioneer and integration adapter I can only say that I'm going to be doing some rewiring with new speakers in the spring. I have no bass to speak of the sound is really just disappointingly flat. Therefore all the Mach crap is getting ripped out and I'll wire in four new speakers, possibly an amp later. It beats no tunes but not by much... looks like I need 4 new 6x8's and some decent wire

I'm keepin the Pioneer- it's a frigging awesome deck- I'm just going to put in new speakers and rewire, bypassing all the Mach 460 stuff. It was a great stereo in my Marquis but the Mach system was fuxored beyond repair by a previous owner it's shot man... just gonna do 4 new speakers and wire them to the HU
