I know there was a change by Ford as to what oil to use in the 1995 5.0. So what should I be using? Gonna put the new timing cover and water pump back on tomorrow and want to change the oil when I'm done so gonna probably go get it today.

Oil's a religion, sadly it is impossible to speak objectively about it because the indisputable cast-in-stone truth varies from person to person.

The owners' manual says 10w30. The TSB from 2002 says 5w20. Both of those are factually what the manufacturer quotes. Jimbob McShadeTree knows better and will tell you why and it probably has something to do with how much he hates Greta Thunberg or whatever.

If your motor is stock, go with what Ford recommends. Mine is a 347 stroker so I run straight 30w

Was this change before the 95 year. Or you seeing a newer update. Depending on your mileage. 10w-30 or 10w-40. Even a 15w would be OK

This is how the automotive world is a lot. Very simple basic question. Several different answers and it’s hard to say what’s right and what’s wrong.

Makes sense, the TSB says that the 5w20 oil will improve fuel economy.... and that's about it! Thinner oils create less drag (windage) on moving parts. You can run the original oil weight all day every day and nothing bad will happen. As long as it's a name brand oil you really cannot go wrong. It's only when you go into extreme racing applications that specific choices need to be made with lubricants, and not just the engine oil but every lubricant in the car. If it's street driven with occasional fun track duty, just send it. Hardly any of us are R&D'ing our cars here.

I was fine with it that was recommended at the time
but some oils have come a long way better viscosity better synthetics
Valvoline has a Relly good understanding of viscosity's lot of testing
