I bought a 2001 GT 5 speed used off of Craigs List, 2 weeks later the clutch exploded at 1am on a Saturday night. I looked up the Vin code says I the early 10.5 clutch and PP. Order in from American Muscle, tore car apart. The clutch disk came apart in about 15 pieces. I put all old parts for the scrap guy. Wrong clutch PP wont bolt up i have the 11" clutch. So I called American Muscle again, as I was on phone I seen junk yard yellow paint all over tranny. So I figured some one swapped with the late 01 Tranny. So they sent me another clutch 11" Ram HDX for the late, for the same money ($80.00 more) and no frt. It comes in rite size clutch but mounting holes (6.25 apart) wont line up when I mount on dowel pins... Called them again they have no idea whats wrong, they want me to buy a $300.00 flywheel. Will this flywheel bolt to my car???

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CAR BROKEN

It's been a while since I've messed with an 01. But IIRc.

The 01s should have an 8 bolt flywheel although some late 01s got the 6 bolt. Most aftermarket flywheels will accept a 10.5 or 11 in clutch. As long as you get the proper 6/8 bolt pattern for your crank the flywheel should work with whatever clutch you buy. Whether it's a 10.5 or an 11.

Does the car have a ford flywheel in it currently?

If it's the original stock one, and assuming swinging the extra cash is not a problem, I would switch to an aftermarket aluminum flywheel. I have put one in each of my 5 speed stangs and love the way the aluminum flywheels make the engine rev and drive.

How many splines are on the shaft in the trans? Correct amount for the clutches you bought. 10 spline iirc. It's early on xmas, with no sleep..

Regarding your transmission. 01's came with 2 transmissions. a t45 (which generally had a 10.5 in clutch in it, or a 3650 which came with an 11)

To tell the difference is easy. If the tranny drain hole is on the bottom it's a 3650, if it's on the side it's a t45.

Anyway, hope it was helpful.
