Is an 08 Crown Vic 4.6 too new to replace an 02 Mustang 4.6? $400 makes me think it's not worth screwing around with the one I have.

Its pretty much the same thing as your motor but it has a knock sensor and 8 thread heads. Its not too new to answer your question.

Thanks. I'm going to pass on the one I found, but that'll help in the search.

Sorry I was a little short earlier. I was on lunch and didnt have a lot of time to reply.

Just an fyi all 4.6 2v pi motors are pretty much exactly the same except for a few items like injectors, spark plug thread count, cylinder head temp sensors, knock sensors, cam gears/caps, exhaust manifolds and block material to name a few. Some were improvements and some items were changed to suit other platforms. None of it really makes a difference but I would post up what vehicle a motor comes out of first so we can help you if things need to be changed.

No worries. I appreciate the extra info. I had heard that about the 4.6 motors, but I wasn't sure how many years that was good for. I can transfer all my intake, accessories, wiring, injectors etc from mine, so all I need is a good long block. The one I was asking about originally went from real low mileage to 88k. 88k would be fine for me if it wasn't 88k on a police car that might have idled for a million hours.
