I want some opinions about the best way to make a 12 sec 5.0. I would like to keep the budget low, if anybody has any tips to give me I will listen.

5.0 Mustang and super fords did a super cheap method to a fox coupe. you would have to have a little more work done, since our
cars are a little bit heavier, but if i remember right: Removed a/c, smog, rear seat, spare tire etc.., Installed Tubular front susp, Rear
upper/lower Control Arms, Some big n' littles with M/t tires out back, 3.73 gears, and full exhaust. I don't think they touched
the engine at all, maybe a throttle body. 12.95 i think is what they ran.. i could be wrong though.

Well I already have little bolt-ons: full exhaust, smog pump delete, pulleys, MSD ignition, CAI. I think thats all the motor stuff. I have Tokico HP kit, and I took out spare tire. I was just wondering are verts heavier than coupes?

Do a whole lot of highway driving? If not, you might look into a steeper gear like the 4.10s. I have them in my DD and love them. Some more stuff that you can do without, power seats. Throw in a manual track. Shouldnt be too hard to find and not that expensive. The power seat motors are heavy as hell. It all just depends on how much you're willing to give up. Some people wouldnt have a problem driving a drag set-up on the road as in virtually no interior and what not, but of course, others would have a problem with it. Our cars aren't really that much heavier, so with similar mods and a good driver, using what that magazine did could get you close.

And yes, verts a DEF heavier. Something you might want to look for is the 25lbs weight in your car. Can't remember were it is, but theres a how-to on removing it I tihnk, look around.

25 lb weight thing. I remember reading that one! I guess we lost it in the whatever you call it! I cannot remember the details, though! I'm thinking it was up under a front tire? I also think 1 member even made a sticky in 1 of the areas with weight things you could remove. 94 DropTop made it! I'm Googling that 25 lb weight thing!

The convertibles have an infamous 25 pound weight behind the passenger side headlight. It was originally installed to reduce cowl shake. I was able to remove the weight without any noticeable shaking, your mileage may vary.

Is that what you mean?

Im soo lost right now..your saying there 25lbs of weight in the front of my car? Well I might want to get rid of that. But does weight really help that much? I know thats a stupid question, but I just turned 16 and got this car for my birthday, I autocross the car and I love doing that but on the streets and strip it just isnt there.

I cannot give any technical, mechanical, just all types of advice, but I sure can Google & search for stuff.

Your question has to be asked by these guys, sorry. I just cut & pasted it!

Yea, there is an actual weight Ford put in the front of the verts. I remember the thread about it pretty clearly. Up in the bumper, or fender, or something, on the front right they put in a 25lb weight to counteract something... the verts aren't as stiff as coupes because of the lack of the roof so they shake more, and that was put there to stop some. Quite a few people have removed them without any negatives effect though. I'm 17 and trust me, look around on this site for a few days and you'll learn a ton.

I'm just a Ford guy, and there's no fords where I go to school. And I want to show all the dodge and chevy guys that a ford mustang isnt just good looks. I want to be fast, Im trying to choose between 3.73s and 4.10 gears. And then my H/C/I combo.

As long as you're not doing a helluva lot of highway driving, go for the 4.10s. I'm getting pretty good mileage, and 4.10s are just damn fun.

For a H/C/I, I'd recommend the Trickflow kit just because its got everything you need in a proven combo package.

Or hell, just throw a S-Trim on it
