Thing about cars is, you pay budget, you get budget! Im also 16 and actually had to save to get this car and love it. How used to the power are you? I don't recommend dropping 300hp+ in a car you just got, you NEED to get used to how the car feels. Also, just get a TrickFlow top end kit, that will beat anything at high schools if that actually matters. Im the fastest car at my school and mine is bone stock...

No offense to him, but I think he was just throwing 12's out there, without really knowing how involved it is to a Stang into that sort of times on a budget...

On another note, driver mod FTW!

shaving weight off is free or extremely cheap. its easier to take 25 #'s off the front than it is to come up w/ the 3hp it takes to lug it around for the same price.

Explored heads, intake, drag radials, nitrous, and learn how to drive it will get you into the 12s.

ive personally seen a stock 93gt with the stock hci take a 200 shot and it lasted a long time. however it had 70k on it at the time. that car was fast and was running new z06s. this was back in 01. 5.0s are very durable especially the earlier forged piston stock shortblock

Nitrous. Slicks.

Done.

+1 ive seen another stock hci 5.0 coupe with a 2 stage 200 shot run 7.0s consistantly in the 1/8th on slicks. it also had a full exhaust and an msd and 3.73s. 1st stage was a nos wet kit with i believe a 125 pill and the second was a zex kit with a 75 pill. hell after they put the gas on it, it ran better na than before. car ran 8.80s na.

I've seen lots of stock 5.0s take lots of nitrous for lots of years. Probably when lots of you were just little tikes in gradeschool. :) I've personally sprayed 175 shot wet kit on stock 5.0 motor with no issues.

i have a stock bottem end, i sprayed a 150 untuned off the launch, worked great untill the rear started to shake and float, let off and coasted over the line in 13.3 @ 117 and everything was fine, checked plugs, they were all good, didnt break anything, its all good and still my daily driver

I would either do Nitrous, as a 5.0 will take a 150 shot and live (done it myself, watch your fuel and timing closely) or save up for a S-trim or H/C/I. the Nitrous is a good way to go, as it is cheap, reliable, and easy to tune for what you want.

I got out of drag racing a few years ago, and built a 302 stock bore 5.0 with the Trick Flow Street Heat top end kit, added a few things, and then dyno tuned it at 300HP and 334 ft Lbs at the tires with heavy ass 18" wheels. The car is meant for open track use.

My point being, build your car so it suits you, and what you want to do. If you want a reliable, fast daily driver out of your 5.0, it will take some planning and hopefully not too many broken parts.

Also, if you get a good quality shifter, like the Pro 5.0, you wont break the trans as often as you think. make shure you get one with the shifter stops.

Just my .02c

I was thinking about nitrous, it's affordable at the time. And im the second fastest car at my school as of now. I have a LS1 Camaro out here and it is pretty fast. It also had a AODE not a T-5, sorry didn't mention that earlier. Is it pointless to take all this weight out and then put a 'cage in it?

Its not pointless. Even if you did add ALL the weight back (which I doubt), you're adding a cage which would def help keep the car from twisting, even though I have no idea how much a problem that is with sotck 5.0s

I have some worked Dart Heads, a custom cam, SFC's, some custom lower CA's, and a hillbilly intake with a full exhaust and UD pulley's and touched 12's in my AOD vert, on accident.

It's easy if you know how, expensive if you don't. It would be easiest to strap a blower to the thing and do suspension bolt ons for most people.
