Some of you know I've been chasing gremlins in this car for awhile now and now I've got something I just can't seem to find. The car will very randomly seem to have almost a hesitation and it's usually accompanied with a misfire, almost like a backfire (sometimes there is a pop that leads me to think it's backfiring). It happens pretty randomly but generally it happens when I'm taking off or if I hit a gradient so basically when it's got a load on it. It's not very consistent as it doesn't happen every day or really every week but I want to get the car right before I go much further with it. I have a hunch that it may be related to my smog pump but not positive. Just for background, this car is a 88 LX. Speed density car, stock except for a explorer intake motor wise. Recently put new head gaskets on it, ignition system is brand new (new dizzy, new wires plugs etc etc). The car is NOT throwing any codes from a KOEO test. When I do the KOER test, I am getting a few. DTC12- rpm at idle high/out of range, DTC41 and 91- HO2S voltage low/ system lean, and DTC33- edge valve not opening properly. These codes I got last time I ran a check on it and as soon as I got them, I replaced both my O2 sensors thinking that may be the issue but as seeing as I'm still having issues, obviously it is not. I could be havin problems with my EGR valve but what I'm thinking is I noticed when I was putting my heads back on the car that my smog pump's outlet I guess, that runs to the lines that run to the back of the heads was broken and I couldn't get it collected. I didn't think much of it at the time but is it possible that it is leaking exhaust there enough to cause the lean codes and possibly messing with the EGR valve as well and be causing my issue? I planned to just delete all of it but I've been trying to trace the issue down first because I just assumed it wouldn't actually be the issue and hadn't considered it but after a few weeks of issues I'm beginning to reconsider.
