I know this is a pretty frequent question but I have been searching for build threads and have no luck so far. This is for a 1996 Cobra that I want to put a 4R70W in . Does anyone know any links to any builds that cover what I'm looking to do? I have seen magazine articles that did but my luck when I go to do it I cant find any references.

The information I am needing is list of all parts and any special modifications that will be needed as in computer or harness, stuff like that.

The list of parts I can think of the I will need.....
- 4R70W (Built by Circle-D, upgraded clutches, bands and shafts)
- Circle-D Billet 3k stall TC
- B&M Trans Cooler & Lines
- Pedal Assembly
- Stock Shifter and Cable
- Speedo Sensor
- Wire Harness (I assume from an auto car but does it connect right up)
- SCT Tuner (to adjust any settings to work with the auto trans and have a dyno tune put n it also)
- Transmission Yoke for driveshaft
- Flexplate w/ 8-bolts ..... Where can I find one of those????
- Trans Cross-member
- PCM (from auto car)

Any tips or comments are welcome to help out. My plan is to collect everything and get everything cleaned up, rebuilt and modified so it can a somewhat smooth transaction without having to wait on parts.

Thanks Guys

Two reasons for the swap....

1. I have had a standard before and I now have an automatic in my GT and it is soooo much nicer to drive around town with and for me also I have a Lung Disorder, Cystic Fibrosis. Some days I have are good and I feel strong but other days I feel weak and I know I shouldn't be driving on those days but sometimes I have no choice when things come up and I have to take care of. So with me having an Auto in the car, which it will be a fully modified one with nice TC, then I wont have to over work myself when driving. One thing also to take into factor is I only weigh around 109lbs b/c of CF and the way it damages my digestive system so my muscle and body mass are not as high as they should be or I'd like them to be. Thats basically the biggest reason, just drive ability.

2. The other thing is I like to take it to the track or get on the gas every once in awhile and the built or even slightly modified auto are fun as hell to drive. Also my mother is into cruising with me and she cant not drive a standard so this would give us the opportunity to have our own cars to drive around in and cause trouble....lol

Thats my reasons for doing it. :p

Thanks for the link!! Keep'em coming....lol

That is all I know man. If he guy from Lasota Racing had not posted that I would have been in the same boat as you. Seems plenty of people go from auto to 5 speed but not many go from 5 speed to auto. You will need the computer from an auto car. Porbably the same year computer. There is also an auto trans wiring harness you will need to get.

I did the opposite a couple months back, looks like your list is complete.
Regarding the flex plate, you'll need an 8 bolt flywheel and just an engine block plate from an automatic car.
You shouldn't need a speedo sensor, unless the transmission is from a 99+.

CircleD good choice..

They are building the hell out of my Tranny right now..
Westside mustangs as well as some other groups in Houston Highly recommended them..
You can find a swap buddy pretty easily.. hell I woulda been up for it but mines a 95.

Just post it here local and someone will trade ya stuff..

plenty of peeps want Auto-manual kits.

There's an issue with just swapping to the auto PCM, since it will be a GT PCM, it won't have the correct tune, or be able to run your IMRC.

The best bet for you would be to get a standalone trans controller and keep the stock ecu.
