I'm going to replace the fuel filter on my wife's 2008 Ford Escape. It's a 2.3L (non hybrid). I found the fuel shut off switch in the passenger side kick panel. It has a little door there. But the thing is, don't I need to unplug it to stop fuel flow so I can relieve the pressure in the lines? I can touch the button through the door but the opening isn't big enough for me to get my hand in there without removing the whole kick panel.

How else can I relieve the pressure in the fuel lines before I remove the old fuel filter?

Or find the fuel pump switch and pull it then crank engine. Or fuel pump relay. or find the valve on the fuel rail use a rag and a screw driver and drain it that way. :headbang:

Don't know where fuel pump switch is. Any ideas where to look?

Haynes hasn't put out a manual for this vehicle yet. And I don't think I can donkey punch the shut off switch since it's sort of behind the panel (less I pull this panel off and I don't want to but I may have to.)

Looking at the fuel rail on this little 2.3l, I don't see a valve.

I can't fit my hand in there to unplug it. I was hoping to not have to disassemble the front panels.

Mustang... no problem. Escape... I don't know.

I think he's saying he doesn't want to break the plastic that covers the kick panel

Press the button then unplug it? :dontknow:

Pressing the button resets it after its tripped. so why not just smack it till it pops up. or unplug it?
