So I'm pretty strapped for cash these days and I was saving for FRPP 3.73, installkit and speedcal and mostly the $600 install.

Right now I found a ford racing 3.55 ring and pinion IN HOLLAND for just $90.. I know 3.73 is better, but seriously how much better comming from 2.73's?

Gas is expensive here, I use the car on the freeway quite a lot, and it saves me not only $70 compared to new 3.73's, but also a lot of shipping and tax getting it here.

Would you say, ignore all these advantages and save for the 3.73's? :sad5:

Thanks!

I like my 3:73's and I still get 20+ mpg. But gas is not $8.00 a gallon here, yet anyway. I also have a 4.6 4V not a 5.0 .You don't need a speedcal for 3:73's. You can just change the speedo drive gear in the trans and problem solved. It will save you some cash.

my 2v with 373's is great i get like 20-23 mpg if im not beating the bag outta it, just save your money and get the good gears, if you really want to save dont buy the speed c al and just use a gps for a speedo, mine is off ten fro m327's to 373

It's not really the gas, I can't imagine 3.55 and 3.73 being that big a difference in mileage. It's mostly the fact that I can get them for $90 (ford racing) instead of $160+ a shitload of shipping and tax. In the end it's gonna be like 1/3 the price of 3.73's. Is the extra $150+ really worth the difference in performance, that's the main question?

ps, they have about 2000 miles on them.

its not gonna be a huge difference but you will defintaly know the difference if you drove in a 373 and a 355 and they had the same set up like stock to stock. but for what you doing, your not gonna be racing the car, why not just save your money and not buy either and have a great cruiser, shave the 90.00

Nope, I'm not racing the car, but I do like to have a fun streetcar for myself. Right now, the 2.73's are really annoying me. I have to shift into 1st way too often and I can't really open up 2nd anywhere because that results in going 75mph+ which is not a good idea unless getting on the highway. Last but not least, I'm getting tired of the bogging down of the line lol, specially with the 285's.

Are these used? I'd be a little worried about used gears... Even if they're fine I hear that they give off more whine...

ok yes its not smart to buy used gears as inorder to get them NOT to whine they ahve to be in the EXACT spot they were in the other car... yes very very difficult. currently in my car i have 373's from ford USE out of a 99 gt with 75k and 3 years of racing on them... mine are quiet

Just check them over really good normally it's not a good idea to buy used gears. I would just wait and buy new with a kit and have it installed. I mean what's 70 more bucks now could end up being 600 more if they whine.

I bought my 3.55s used but they were out of a factory installed car, no whining at all with mine. In case you were wondering I'm at 2400rpm at 75 with the 3.55s. If you're not racing the car I don't think you'll ever notice the difference.

I bought them, couldn't pass this up. Now I just need a place that can install them.

Unless you're blown, go with the 3.73s if manual. Blown, 3.55. 4.10 for autos... regardless.
