So it’s looking like no one who did the 351w style swap had any regrets?

I regret that I cut corners with mine, spent much time/money trying to…. “Un-fuck it” and losing interest just when I was poised to have a serious combo.

It is what it is but I don’t regret the Coyote swap.

@Venom351R had a pretty stout combo in his previous ride. Perhaps he’ll chime in.

Do you have a thread, or would be willing to talk about those corners?

It’s all buried in my build thread. I’ll give you the cliff notes;

Built a 410w with a SVO block with a TFS 3 cam but could only afford Procomp 210 heads & Performer RPM intake. Made peak power around 4500 rpm’s.

Had those heads CNC ported and switched to a TFR R intake. Started to have issues with pushrod angle and ultimately bent a valve.

Sorted that issue and then broke a rocker stud. Around this time, I landed my current job and my budget blossomed. Spend a boatload on AFR205’s, Victor SR intake, custom Ed Curtis cam, Holley EFI. Wrecked my daily driver 98 GT and just lost interest. Guy made me an offer I couldn’t refuse and sold it all.

Hindsight? Should’ve yanked the TFS 3 cam, dropped my old E-cam in with my E7 heads and drove it like that until I could’ve dropped a better top end on it. All of that I mentioned above played out between 2009 and 2016. I put about 700 miles on the 410w and it was just a bitter lesson to learn.

Now, with the Coyote, I’m making good power and it’s been very reliable. Just not cheap, at all.

No regret on my 393w in a 98 that was originally a v6 I knew going in I would be buying some serious aftermarket items. 1974 block ,The engine has scat crank, 3.85 stroke using 6.2" rod , H beam rods, racetec 4340 forged Pistons .005 in the hole profiler heads Victor jr intake. Comp 294 hr hydr. Roller cam . Custom made mid length header with 1 7/8 primary, 3 " exhaust. Trans is a C6 with wide ratio first and second gear set. FTI 3800 converter Going to 4.30 rear and 35 spline axle k member is from upr afco front struts, comp engineering adjust drag shocks in rear . Best so far is 11.4@120 I've had near zero issues with engine, had some trans issues that are now resolved. And some suspension pieces that haven't held up as well as expected. The engine now has 3 seasons and some cruises

I totally understand. I have had too many projects just to come to a point and let them go. Sometimes reason doesn’t happen because it works against my greater goal, even if the outcome would be better. I will read your thread.

Man, I hope you’re bored! It’s a long read.

Yes. This has some of the reason for the ported Cobra intake. The apparent of stock with a supercharger.

I have the gt40 lower for a 351w
I would probably stay 8.2 deck based for various reasons . I was planning on doing a 351w based swap. The pros vs cons made me vote to stay 8.2 deck . Hood clearance with my procharger being a big one . Headers ,steering rack clearance , swap oil pan . If your planning to stay smog legal it just makes more sense to stay 8.2 deck with a decent set of heads and a cobra intake . I’ve wanted to get rid of my svo gt40 intake but can’t bring myself to swap it out .

Again, and not to be a spoiler or party pooper, but there’s also the visual inspection, which can include making sure all cats are in place and all upgrades are C.A.R.B approved and stamped.

My local smog check guy only looked at the motor, not the exhaust for the 4 cats. Once I showed him the stamps, we were good to go and I passed.

But….. a previous guy I was going to go to for smog said he DOES check the exhaust system for mandatory components (i.e., cats) . So, needless to say, I didn’t go to him but took it as a dyre warning. I have all 4 required cats on my exhaust system with the FlowMaster Thunder Series 44 cat-back system behind it.

Good morning everyone. Been chewing on this a bit, leaning towards the 363 for many of the reasons listed above. Going to do a few other mods first, like build the rear end and upgrade the trans. Looking to do a fuel system in the future and also looking to start tuning with Moates QH.

I think that’s the right move . I was debating going 351w based combo for a long time until I weighed my options.
