Hey guys,

Sorry if there already is a topic on this but i didnt have any luck locating it. Maybe i looked right past it i dont know. Just had a general question about 4.6 2v engines and hope i dont sound to ignorant. How much can these engines put out with good forged internals? I mean if you did end up getting forged internals how much HP can the block actually handle before it take s***? Reason i ask is because i run into a bunch of conflicting topics. Was under the impression that they could only handle about 500 if even that but like i said im completely confused on this topic. Any response would be really appreciated.

Thanks

i would say anything over 400 and your living on borrowed time on the stock block. Forged and a safe tune over 500 is no problem at all.

the blocks themselves can handle more than you throw. its the rods, pistons that are crap. prepping is where it counts and tune.

I'm with him, the 4.6 block can handle more than 500 horse. Its the factory powdered rods and the cast crank is what'll give first.

Alot of how muhc "hp" can it handle is directly related to the quality of internals and more importantly the quality of balancing done on the rotating assembly. The blocks have been known to hold 800hp (stock iron) so have at it. Just make sure everything else is up to code with the power your running.

the cranks can hold an abundance of power. its the rpm, quality oil, and over engines health that factors for cranks. bearings is another story that i wont get into. usually from detonation the pistons in these engines crumble. its all about the tune and load from cylinder pressure. the rods its shear load and the fact its powdered metal. theres so many variables of this engine that ford made it inferior. but opposed to stock reliability is superior.

Never got the chance to fully mess with the last stang i bought. Pulled it from a dealer ship and it looked amazing. Damn thing shining across the lot screaming my name. Little did i know it was screaming to be put out of its misery not to be bought and driven (90,000 miles 96 gt). What a mistake that was! The thing just fell apart slowly. The only thing that held together and never gave me an issue was the engine believe it or not.
The only thing i got to put on was bold-ons and full exhaust. Then i just kept repairing.... one thing after another. Like it was doing it on purpose or something lol. Next one (Few Months) ill make sure to keep a better eye out for this shit lol

@96MustangGt no kidding man, I have a 98 GT and its at 132K its hasnt given me issues until my tires started seperating, first thought it was my driving then found it it wasnt me. I got it alligned several times but nothing has fixed the issue. Then my manifold blew so I got a PI, much better. Then my heater core went, still havnt fixed that because in between all that my tire went bad and need a new one. And now my weather strip broke off so need to repair that and bearings!!
