Been long range planning.

And not wanting to go too crazy, and plan on a budget....I've been looking at these:

4.6 Aluminator: $4300

4.6 Romeo Iron Replacement: $799

And comes the point I was looking at
5.0 Boss Block: $1299

Now I don't know much about the modular world.
I know that back in the day a 5.8 build/swap uses many of the same parts off a 5.0, which made it really easy.

But on this?
I would assume the top would be the same.
But what about the internals?

I would assume since the bore and such is different, would I need different (possibly very expensive) internals?

Anyone ever do a 5.0 mod build? or know someone who has?

If it works, it'd be a bit of a sleeper, a few extra ponies more than anyone would suspect.

And I haven't heard of alot of people doing this. So it would(at least to my knowledge) add to originality.

You could go that way. Or you could get a set of PI heads, bigger cams, PI manifold or other. Take a good nitrous kit and go from there a little 75 or 125 shot and youll be more then happy.

If you want to go with the 5.0 kid thats fine but you will have money in that rotating assembly. A good friend of mine took a 4.6 nvh block and went up to a 5.3 so it can be done but again like you said, how much money is too much.

Like I mentioned the internals seem to the the expensive part.
it has 4.6 deck height, so at least it would fit, but from there, even by comparison, it'd be easier to do a 5.0 stroker.

I'm gonna keep looking into it. Just gotta find the internals, that will be the ultimate decider.

its not cheap. 2300$ for rotating assembly and extra 400-600 on machining the block. you can use your existing 2v block. i went with a WAP block. again, its not cheap. please think your build through. Call the companies and not search the interwebz for answers.

i called down at texas hot rods over around El Paso, cause that's where I am heading.
WHOA, even getting the parts together myself, OUCH.
When the time comes, even with the costs of finding supporting mods, looks like a pushrod 5.0 may be finding it's way in.

Have you looked into Ummm or whoever else sells shortblocks? Then you could just reuse your top end

looked at modmax, seemed tempting.
been reading that the 5.0 strokers maker better torque, but could actually lose out on HP

I did a Boss 5.0 block with stroker rotating assembly. The big bore stroker rotating assembly was only a couple hundred more than the stock bore stroker assembly but the block is costly. Only reason I went that route was because I was deployed and could afford it.

Well since I'm deploying soon anyway, that is another reason I was debating this.

I read about the boss block capable of holding far more power than I ever plan to throw at it.
It is either a 5.0 block or when I rebuild, I'll put a stroker kit in it.

That said, I don't wanna blow all my deployment money on the car. Gotta pay off debt for when I get out.
I'd say I am on a tax return budget.
3-4 Grand.
That said, if the block is good, then 5.0 stroker, with PI swap. Nothing crazy.
Looking for about 300RWHP, and longevity.

UGH, still looking.

MMR's 5.0 shortblock looks promising, that with the trick flow top end kit, the track heat intake, and a bit more aggressive cams....

looking that direction.

or just getting forged internals...with the trick flow stuff.
Im pretty much sold on the heads :)

Yeah you really cant go wrong on the head choice..

do you plan to build all of this yourself? or a shop?

you can budget this easily, modmax has awesome deals on stuff and you can find teksid (strongest) blocks for sale all the time for cheap and have a shop throw it all together

probably going to let HPS in el paso do this.
As I am going there next.

I'm really not after much.
I just want it to last a while.

Yeah it is, considering the trick flow top end kit alone is 3G
I would still need a PI intake.

But a friend of mine here in germany has this setup, along with alot of other things, but he still has the sheet in his project binder of the top end kit.

+122 HP
so you think about it.
215+ 120(+)
Thats a nice boost, putting the motor in the 300 range.

Granted when I do this, I'll add the rest on too.

CAI, Full Exaust, UDPs, I should be relatively close to 300RWHP.

That said, I will most likely do the instally myself, and have it tuned at a local shop.
The downside to this PI swap, is the computer will not adjust for this one. It will need tuning.
But then it "should" be a very nice street car.

But more on that as it develops.

I just want a good cam....
The trick flow cam is 1500-5000 powerband.
Which should be ok, since I don't plan to drag....maybe a few times, just to get legit 12s on my DD street car, and to spite my friend with a z06. But past that, I don't have the money or Rank to play "breaky" with my car.....

But a little lope in the idle would be nice :)
