by older do you mean from a fox?, f150?
where are you getting the t-5 trans from? fox trans is 1"shorter than the sn trans.
it's going to be a huge undertaking.
5.0 computer, engine harness, all sensors, 5.0 guage cluster, trans crossmember might be different too.
there's probably more too.

Can I ask why?

A PI 4.6 will run with any stockish 5.0 and can handle loads more power with big mods.

^ and not require a computer change.

if you were to do this swap (4.6 > 5.0) i would only suggest doing it from doner-car to doner-car, not trying to peice it together.

Additionally, you can find a PI 4.6, as Rich said, for just as little money.

Imo keep the 4.6 , just the fact that u have to change everything in the engine bay sucks, also the 4.6 is just a more refined engine , it can handle boost and the block does not split lol. Also it runs smoother and revs higher. I got a 5.0 and to tell you the truth its only advantage is how easy is to work and the more torque it puts down, its true that the 5.0 aftermarket is better but the 4.6 is not far behind, imo a PI 4.6 with boost is so much fun.

Going to a 5.0 is a downgrade. I used to be a 5.0 nut but once I got a 4.6, saw the aftermarket and the pros of having one I will NEVER go back. PI motors are a dime a dozen or if its just the valve seals and the bottom end is fine do a PI swap with heads/cams/intake and get your t45 rebuilt. t45source will do it for $1200ish for their street build and its great. No idea why anyone ever wants to downgrade to a 5.0 from a 4.6 platform. Our blocks are way stronger and that alone gives anyone building a motor a $2000+ head start on the 5.0 build, stock longblocks are good for comparable power, our motors are much better for boost and they come out of the box with heads/intake that actually don't suck (the 99-up cars anyway). Only the 93-95 Cobras came with any sort of decent flowing stock HCI from the factory as far as the 5.0s are concerned and I'd still rather have a PI motor than a GT40 Cobra. I have had both and I like my current car better.

Well, I dunno if 'downgrade' is the right word. But definitely not worth going from 4.6 to 5.0 or a 5.0 to a 2V 4.6, just not worth the headache and cost. You'd be better off selling, and getting a 5.0 or 4.6, whichever you desire.

Each has their own upside and downside. But yea, 500HP at the block tends to do bad things to a 5.0.

Only upside to a 5.0 I can think of is the ease of swap to a 351 based motor for NA power. Maybe the extra 50-75whp in the 5.0 if you are one to push the stock longblocks since the weak points are different. Only upside I can think of honestly. That's just me though, if pushrods are your thing then do pushrods, I just don't see the advantage.

Don't need to shift kit the automatic, just do the "j mod". As for 32v, not needed depending on what you are doing but c heads are a lot cheaper than ported PIs...

Keep it 4.6 based. Not that the motor is any better, but it will be cheaper. And where the hell can you trade a oil burning engine and blown tranny for a decent 5.0 and t5? Dreamland.

And to ad fuel to the fire, I don't think modular motors are all THAT stronger than a SBF. Personally seen a 4.6 block that cracked. Didn't think it could happen like 99% of the people out there. S197 3 valve. He first turbo'd it to 700 hp. Blew the bottom end, replaced it with forged, blew again and twisted the block.

He is a lead guy at the best ford performance tuner in Houston.

Unless you go to a factory 03-04 shortblock, you'll still do damage to the shortblock (ie rods and pistons) with a 4.6 and boost over 450 rwhp. I know some can live (really good tunes) as with stock 5.0 shortblocks making well over 500rwhp have survived, again with a good tune. Then again, how long will they survive?
