Posting this for my best friend, and I would like to know as well. Any links or good info on this.... :TY:

Hey guys - I have a 1996 Mustang GT Convertible (pics available upon request). I'm going to have the car converted to a stick from the current automatic setup and I want some answers. Now, after reading a bunch of forums, everyone says "it's cheaper to sell your car and buy a stick" - well NO $H#T! But for those of you who put blood sweat tears and money into your 'Stangs, you know how it is. I'm keeping my damn car. So I have a pretty good idea of what's involved but I have a couple questions...

1. Is there anyone out there who had this done to their Mustang?
2. If so, what was the process?
3. What did it cost?
4. What parts am I going to need?

Even if you haven't had it done, what parts are needed? estimated cost?

And most importantly, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO IN THE NJ/NY/PA AREA WILL DO THE CONVERSION? And I have a motor swap being done when this is finished so it's gonna be mean. I appreciate all of the help I can get here. Thanks..

(Rob)

flywheel, clutch kit, clutch pedal assembly, clutch cable, Quadrant, firewall adjuster, t-45 trans, bellhousing, clutch fork, slave cylinder, i think a different crossmember (maybe), and ect

if you are going through all this trouble dont put a stock T-45 in do a Tremec TKO 500 or 600. For the money you will be putting in it would be stupid not to

Its a waste of money to put a T45 in anything. They're junk plain and simple. Thats y u can find a used one for about 350. They make really great door stops though. Get a 3650 used out of a newer model stang like an 04. They're a lot better. Now lets see..... trans $900 used, clutch kit (king cobra) $229, driveshaft $100 ($230 if aluminum), new computer $160 or so, new shifter bezel $45, Lets say $60 for the pedal assembly from a salvage yard, crossmember $50 from a donor car, cutch cable firewall adjuster and quadrant $110, flywheell $125 I could find the parts for 1800 or so. I have a drivesaft that you can buy for $70 I think the labor would be around $700 But really, all this stuff you want to do is easy and can basically done with simple hand tools. This is a good weekend project once you have all the parts. Let me know if you need a driveshaft.

From what I understand its tko 600> viper spec T56> tko 500> T56> Tremec 3550 > T3650 > Tremec T45 > Borg Warner T45

I just looked it up, the 3650 is rated at 360 ft lbs but I've seen cars with a lot more power run them.

would any t56 work?

like one from a camaro?

With some work, you'd need a Camaro trans for about 800 bucks to make it worthwhile, since Cobra units go for around 2k and bolt in.

BTW, to the OP, member Jfor441 on here is doing the oposite swap. He already has a donor auto, but as far as I know he does not have the ecu, harness, pedals, etc yet. So you may want to contact him and see if some type of trade can be worked out.

You're better off finding a T56 off a cobra. But really they're not that strong. Also they don't have the super low overdrivelike the viper does. Its not worth it unless you have a viper spec T56. I've got a tko 500 with an MGW and I love it. 3rd gear can be a little tricky if you're not used to it.

T56 is king but is not worth it unless you get the one with the 550 TQ rating and the .50 overdrive. Otherwise just get the TR 3650
