4Valve or 2Valve?

I was just wondering what you guys thought about swapping a P.I. 4valve into my 97 GT. A couple people have told me to just use a 4valve instead of the 2002 GT engine I have in my garage. I think this would be a lot more trouble because of the wiring harness and such. Any tips? Thanks, Matt.

In retrospect it would have been far easier and cost effective to get to my current power level if I went 4v to begin with.

im doing the PI 2V swap right now (well my mechanic is). i guess it depends on how much you want to spend. obviously the 4V would be the best choice if youre looking for the most power. on the other hand, with enough money and with the right parts you can make 1000 hp with almost any motor.

i'd say, do what fits your budget and future plans best :dunno:

Yeah but 375 rwhp is about as easy as falling off a stool while drunk, and streetable too with a 4v.

im not arguing that "fact"... im just saying it depends on what you want to spend and what your future plans are. there will be a slightly higher expense to going 4V initially due to wiring/computer/etc. then later down the road the addition of 2 more cams and 16 more valves when/if you decide to upgrade to that level... its all about the $$$

i'd do the 4V if i wanted to spend that kind of money :dunno:

If I was to do a 4v swap get a motor out of a 03-04 Mach 1. Motor has the better head design and many other things IMO then the 99-01 Cobra motor. Either way you will be happy with the out come.

Ya right now i'm on a tight budget so going with the 2v would def. save me money. I was thinking about going with some Nitrous cams and forged pistons and keeping the stock P.I. heads.

I did a PI engine swap and made 261. I am trying to decide weather or not to swap in a 4v now... Heads and cams would be easier but, a 4v is just a freakin beast!

I figure to make 315hp I'll need heads, cams, cam gears, tune, dyno and shorty's... total cost around 3000-3200

315 with a 4v would be motor, tune and shorty's 2500-3000 for the motor, 250 shorty's, 250 for my tuner, dyno time 120$ max... so the 4v wouldn't be cost effective for me right now...

I want a 4v under my hood plain and simple.... But It would sweet as hell to have the sickest sounding 2v in my area.

whats done to it to get you at 261 and what kind of dyno did you run your car on?

99 PI motor, Custom SCT flip tune, H-pipe, Flowmasters, BBK CAI w/ K&N and it was on two different dynojets

if you are going 4 valve while heads or motor is out you should go with long tubes insted of shortys and also depeneding on money situation and how you buy the parts ( every part seperate or a complete motor ) you should send your heads to modular mustang racing for a light port job will be 550 plus shipping and all but there a very reputable company and does really good work, but even with a port job and long tubes and cai the gains would be sick

with the 2v again depending on how you buy your parts if your gettin heads seperate now would be the time to port them mmr does a stage 3 port job for 650 with some nice cams and l/t's your looking at a good running car for a little cheaper

not bad for just a few mods... i wouldnt think you'd get that much. ive been doing quit a bit of research lately and the most ive seen on a full bolt on with a tune was 254rwhp on a 2000 PI motor. my tuner told me with my cams i should expect 260-275 :dunno:

of course thats on his Mustang Dyno

you are mixing hp rating one rwhp and one flywheel a 4 valve will dyno 260-280. there is not enough difference to change motors. How fast are you wanting to go and how streetable?

dude if it was me, i would get a mark 8 motor, 96-98 cobra intake/ or 97-98 mark 8 intake, and some cobra cams and put the motor together and install with your gt wiring and computer. Then tune and boom your on the road. Price scale:

Mark 8 motor, I've seen them for 400-900 dollars "running"
Cobra intake = 400
or 97-98 mark intake = 200
Cobra cams = most people give the stock ones away. or 100
Tuner plus tune =/= 600

The only thing i don't know would be the odds and ends. I wouldn't think more than 400 dollars

1900-2500 would be the price range i would say.

Thats the way i'm going :) , there are a couple members on here that have done the swap and i know one right now that is finishing his up. Even has a tread about it with pics. If interested let me know, i might can dig it up :)
