Assuming i have the correct fuel and timing to support, would 8lbs be safe on a stock 5.0?

How much power is 8lb?

boost is a number, nothing more, nothing less. All it is, is a measurement of resistance.

What are your plans/setup? Lets go from there. :eek:ccasion14:

i dont know how much it would make on 8 lbs.garrett t3/t4 .custom headers and all hotside,as well as pressure piping.dont know on intercooler or bov yet i was gonna use an 8 lb spring in the wastegate.i had the turbo given to me from my work.it was recently rebuilt,im a college student so i cant really afford the time or money of building the engine.i was gonna go with 30 lb inj. with a calibrated MAF.and msd ignition with a boost timing retard and thats as far as i know so far.i expect this setup to only make 300-350 hp if i were to throw out a wild guess. also ac and smog delete.im sure the stock rods and crank will be fine, but i dont know about the pistons or headgaskets

So i guess my real question is would the stock headgaskets and pistons be ok on 8 lbs?would it melt holes thru the sides of the pistons or blowout head gaskets?

It depends on how much power you make and how much detonation that engine takes. The tune is what will be the deciding factor of how long that engine will last. Head gaskets would go eventually, just replace them with a quality high performance set of gaskets. Pistons will survive with a good/smart tune..

This going to be a stock engine with a turbo setup?

So why not wait and do everything at once? Are you talking building it years later or soon?

a t3/t4 is vague, and tells us absolutely nothing about the turbocharger except its a t3 turbine, and a t4 compressor.

FWIW, a close friend of mine has a stock longblock 302, Twisted Wedge heads, Explorer intake, stock cam and is making 506whp/612tq running a Hellion turbo kit and a Master Power T70 with the .96 (or .98, I forget) hotside. Car is tuned on 10.2psi I believe.

Will your engine handle 8psi? Depends on the tune.

I have two friends (one sold it) that were running turbo setups on stock internal 5.0's They had other mods done but the pistons/rods exc.. were all stock. I believe they ran anywhere from 8-10 PSI and both self tuned their cars

Thank you, very helpful information. And i will be tuning mine myself.

Good luck :headbang:

Should be fun and a great learning experience JUST be careful because the 92 1/2 - 95 Mustang GT's don't handle detonation like the older foxes.

Just curious, how are you tuning yours by yourself? What engine management system are you using?

By tuning mine myself,i meant adjusting the rise ratio in the fmu and changing my timing with the msd controller

That's the only way you are tuning it?

No PMS, DFI, AEM etc. :dontknow:

Right now my neighbor has a 93 GT with a stock motor and heads and just an intake running 8lbs all day with no issues. Only thing he ever has an issue with after 2 years is boost creep during the cooler days of the winter here in Florida. He has seen 10-11lbs a handful of times and popped a head gasket but that's it. Car rides out. Oh he does have a good tune on it and it makes 400 to the wheels.

thats not a stock "long block"

if this is a original long block, it would be wise to replace the head gasket and head bolts before throwing boost at it... is it necessary no but would be wise
