I have a 95 5.0 and the timing / firing order is off. When i have a timing light connected it does not have a steady flash, it is extremely spurattic, and does not show proper timing. When I do have the car "running" it will idle at 350 - 450 and when I press on the gas it starts to sputter and backfire. Please anyone with any suggestions ot tips, please let me know. I really dont want to have to give up my car.
Or if anyone has a 95 5.0 engine they are selling please let me know about it.
Thank you everyone.

To check the timing correctly you have to pull the little gray chip out of the plug on the passenger side of the engine bay close to the mass air meter while the car is running, that should fix the timing light problem.

Firing order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. Check that first.

Set base timing at 10* initial with the spout out.

Run trouble codes.

Ensure you have no vacuum leaks.

What have you changed recently on the car, and when did it start?

Oh, and I'm moving this to 5.0 Tech.

Paul.
