I have a 95gt Mustang, mods are in my sig. anyways this over heating problem started about two weeks ago, i replaced the water pump, coolant sensor, t-stat and i flushed the radiator, i stuck a hose in the top radiator hose inlet and water came out of the bottom inlet pretty fast, I then stuck the water hose on the bottom inlet hose and it took awhile for it to come out of the top inlet, but it eventually came out but it seemed like it took a little bit, also the upper radiator hose gets extremely pressurized and the right side of the radiator was cold while the left was hot, seems weird because yesterday both sides were hot as was the lower radiator hose and today it is cold, is the lower radiator hose supposed to be cold? and when it does overheat it doesn't boil water out of the reservoir or anything, anyways i need this fixed any insight would be great thanks guys.

UPDATE: i used a non contact laser thermometer and on the t stat housing is was 225 degrees and at the intake manifold right after the t stat housing it was also 225 degrees, the lower radiator hose is at 105 degrees and the upper around 190
and when i try to squeeze the upper radiator hose its extremely pressurized and its so hot that you cant touch it. i also checked the stock gauge by grounding out the sensor wire and the gauge went to full hot so that had to be working, when it over heats it right on the red line and when i shift it budges down a tiny bit than goes back up in between shifts or if i drive it another 100 feet, there is no water in my oil or smoke coming out of my exhaust. I am about ready to take this thing to pick and pull and watch them crush it

Is the thermostat in backwards? Just a guess so don't shoot me if it sounds idiotic. The hot water may never be getting to the radiator. That might be why the reservoir doesn't boil on overheat. I would check the t-stat again...cheapest and easiest to replace. And it seems it could be very easy to install backwards.

nope... the top hose is the return line... returns hot water to the rad... the rad shouldn't be half hot half cold... The rad is all clogged up... the hot water is getting to the rad but the its not getting cooled sufficiently and it goes back through the motor still hot... If the thermostat was the problem there would be no water in the top hose...

Hot water flows into the top of the radiator and cools as it flows down the core and back to the motor via the bottom hose, thats why the top hose is always the hottest hose, no point in sending red hot water back to try and cool an engine.

Just found something that describes it better:

never mind the fact that is the return hose from the engine.

Did you do this work because of the overheating or do the work and then the overheating started? Fan coming on at all? Have you tried running without a T-Stat in and see what the temp does? Just tossing some ideas out there.

What temp should he run at on a stock motor? The stock fan comes on at 205 so its going to run over 200.

try you electric fan motor. My fan went out and it started overheating and the lines would be hot and looking like they were about to bust but give that a try.

If the lower hose is cold, then coolant isn't flowing through the engine. Does the heater blow hot?
I would start with the Thermostat, ensuring the spring is facing the engine! While you have it out, throw it in a boiling pot of water to make sure it opens. Then put it back in, spring facing the engine.
If you verify that the thermostat is good and installed properly, then you will probably need to flush again. I would buy the prestone cooling sytem flush. Follow the instructions on the back. You might notice a surge of gum and grime coming out after using that stuff. That means it's working.
Did you change the intake or headgasket?

Absolutely...get a good gauge.

If you want a new fan setup this one is supposed to be great. One of the great tech/racers over on Mustangworld recommends it. Infact, here is a post he made to a person with cooling issues.

Derale dual kit - 4000+ cfm >> never see over 165 even in the dead of summer in slow traffic - its my first choice for every car i can fit it in little over 200 bucks cant beat it >>

you just notch the corners and it fits flush on a radiator like factory stuff

He could need a mew radiator, but why spend $100+ when you can spend $40-$60 on a gauge, which I totally recommend anyways as the stock gauges Suck!

I have a radiator off my 94GT, if you want it let me know.
I upgraded to an Aftermarket, nothing wrong with it.

he is overheating... a gauge only measures the water temp... a gauge will not make the car over heat or prevent it from over heating... so saying that the gauge sucks is irrelevant... unless the OP thinks its over heating when it isn't due to the shitty gauge... but i doubt that since half the rad is hot and the other is cool... that only happens when your rad is shot... he needs a new one... if he does some shopping he can get a stock rad used for about 50 bucks at a junkyard, get a new one for about 100, or he could upgrade to an aftermarket (which i honestly see no reason for on a stock car)
