Sup guys, I'm new here. Alright, I know this guy that has a 1996 Cobra for sale.. I was planning on trading him my 98 GT for his car. He told me the car needs a intake gasket.. Well, here is the story of what he said. "Ran good, then noticed water coming out of the exhaust, So i pulled the intake and there was water everywhere and the gaskets were rotten and cracked. the upper gasket looked fine, I thought It was the headgasket till we did a compression check and they were about the same on every cylinder." I asked him if it was skipping or over heating, he said "Nothing just water everywhere it ran perfect, i drained the water and oil and just put oil in and it fired up fine sounded fine and then i cut it off."
He also said that its the lower gaskets that sit on the imrc butterflies.

Sorry if its hard to understand, I was reading the text messages he sent and typing..

I was thinking this could be a head gasket, Any other opinions? I'd hate to trade for a money pit. Thanks guys

Well, I can tell you this much. Even if the intake gaskets are bad. You WILL NOT get water in the exhaust. The intakes do not have coolant running through them. When you say water coming out. How much are we talking? And what's the weather been like over there?

There are a couple places that are common to leak water. However, they will not go inside the motor.

The weather has been fine here, Sprinkle of rain every now and then, other than that low 70's.
He didn't say how much water, just said when he pulled the intake, he seen water. Thanks for the reply though BB

No problem. I asked about weather thinking condensation or something of that nature. But...

If he saw water underneath the intake. Then it is highly likely not a serious problem like a headgasket. I mentioned common leak spots.

1. is directly under the intake at the water pump nipple out the back. O rings go bad and leak.
2. is the heater core hoses on the rear of the passenger head.
3. is the coolant crossover tube.

I'd trade him if the cars are in similar shape. Even if the Cobra needed a headgasket it can be rebuilt cheap and still be worth more than the 2v and go faster.

To be completely honest I only ended up with this GT because i got a deal on it. It needs a paintjob badly.
The Cobra has had a recent paintjob. Its setting on Cobra R's. He said he would have to keep the wheels and his Steeda Tri ax. No big deal to me. I got the 98 GT for $1100 not a single problem. So i'll come out on the good side either way. Was just getting opinions, And I will check those tomorrow when I look at it. I appreciate it.

Any updates? You ever check to see those 3 spots to see if thats where the leak is coming from.

Figured I'd ask here instead of your new thread over on Corral.
