My mother-in-law's 96 Explorer 2WD clutch pedal is going to the floor and not disengaging the clutch. I'm thinking slave cylinder but has anyone had a similar problem :dontknow:??

Thanks in advance for all the help.

have you tried to bleed the system. If it is the slave you'll need to drop the trans. (if it's anything like my son's ranger)

Didn't bleed it yet because I couldn't find the bleed on the master cylinder. I found instructions for bleeding the system and the bleed is on the tranny but they also mention disconnecting the master cylinder coupling tube. Is that a necessary step or can I just use the bleed valve??

Can you tell I've never worked on an Explorer?

I haven't either. all I can reference is my son's 89 ranger. His slave cyl. is on the input shaft. The line you gravity bleed. The slave itself you use the bleeder. If it needs replaced you'll have to drop the tranny.

I agree. A swift kick in the stones might make them wake up and design parts that come off with a normal wrench. Ricers are no exception. Had a 96 Honda Accord that the water temp sensor went bad on. Had to take out both fans, part of the front fascia, etc, to change it. Turns out the stupid sensor doubles as the radiator drain plug!! So if you wanted to drain the radiator you had to take half the car apart.

Idk about the import thing. I did a tranny swap on my toyota 4x4 pick up and only used 4 sockets. and 1 was only used to remove the crossmember bolts.

I agree on whole. Swapping the slave cylinder in my old Toyo pickup was a 20 minute job and obviously didn't involve dropping the tranny like I'll have to do here if the salve is bad. I was shall we say a bit agitated at the time of that post.
