Hello all, recently picked up this nice rust free 96 GT Vert with the 460Mach sound system. It had an aftermarket Dual head unit in it. Everytime I turned the car on with the radio on, there was a super loud POP and constant buzzing which increased in volume with the revs of the engine.

Saw on a video that the pop comes from not having a voltage reducer from 12v to the ford 5v. Please correct me if I’m incorrect about that.

However the constant buzzing sound is what I’m trying to fix. I can post a photo of what headunit if that’s needed to see if that one will work with the 460Mach system.

I did see that there is a Metra 70-5011 and Metra 70-5010 wire harness kit. Which one do I actually need because I’m a tad confused on that..

Please any help regarding this is much appreciated!

yes the 5v converter should stop the pop. As for the alternator noise I know my 94 has a small external cap mounted to the ignition coil to prevent noise problems like this. If you had a 94/95 I would say to start there, not sure about 96.

You should not need any wiring kits if it is playing. The noise has nothing to do with that. Also if your battery dies after it sits for a couple of days its probably one of the mach amps as they are know problems for this. If you decide to bypass them it can be done easily with a different wire kit and new speakers.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I think there are two radio suppression things on my coils. I doubt those are bad. But, as for the battery, it doesn’t die thank goodness. I’m wondering now if everything will be solved with the resistor. Think that could stop that constant buzzing sound too?

the resistor should not have any effect on the noise. If nothing else go check the connections/clean the connections to those caps as they are the first line of defense against noise like this. Next up you can try grounding the deck better but sometimes its just the cheap gear. Dual isn't know for its SQ.

Yeah I’ve always been a dual/boss user. I’ll try this 5v resistor first and go from there. Off top of head you know which wire to splice that into?
