Need a set of locks for my mustang. Just the door cylinders are ok too, most important is the key.

By anti-theft do you mean the keyless entry or some other system--either way I will check in the morning.

I'm new to mustangs so please excuse me if I sound dumb.

nah its alright i remember those days of trying to learn all the stang lingo. you will learn a lot quickly since there isnt too much to these cars. other members correct me if im wrong but keyless entry souldnt matter, as long as you have the original key fob. and i know in 96 they started to use the PATS system which means passive anti theft system. This system has the coded keys which are much harder to duplicate compared to the previous cut keys without the chip in them. If yours are the coded keys which they probably are, you are almost better off having a new key cut and coded to the factory computer. Can you upload a picture of your key, and give us more specifics of why you are looking for a complete kit?

a) you no longer have the original key
b) your door locks do not match the ignition lock
c) you dont have door locks
ETC...

thats what the key looks like.

I'm not sure if I have anti-theft, I do see a little light that flashes that says (anti theft) on the dash when I turn the car on though.

Trying to replace the driver side lock cylinder because someone tried to break into it and kind of messed it up, now I can't lock or unlock the car from the drivers side. I hate having 2 pairs of keys for the same car so I figured I'd post on the forums to see if it was possible to get a matching set of locks.

thanks

it doesn't look like a pats key, but look on the top of the plastic and if there is a pats system you will see something that looks like a small cover/door on it.

If it is pats though you could always either bypass it with the key you already have by gluing/wire tying/mounting that key up near the ignition cylinder so the car will still "see" the pats key transponder when you do start it. You can also turn it off with a tune if I am not mistaken. I know someone is going to go crazy saying its stupid to bypass an anti-theft system but to a good theif that wants the car pats is not a perfect system and you can get around it.

you can bypass by doing this but that only works for the ignition. There are sensors in the doors which also read this chip and if the wrong key is used or the sensor goes bad the alarm will sound and fuel pump shut off until you get the alarm to turn off.

How bad did they damage the lock? It might be able to be fixed by a local shop and re keyed if needed.

what in the door uses pats? 15+ yrs installing audio/security and that would be news to me. Pretty sure the only place the passive transponder emits or receives info is at the column where the coil is.

nope lol 96's and some early 97's i believe have sensors in the door. extremely hard to find. my 96 cobra had them and mine went bad. Took me 2 years to track down both parts since ford no longer makes them and not many are available to begin with. They are very similar to the 97-98 lincoln mark viii sensors. I would almost bet you can use the mark sensors. I will try to find a pic for you.

are you saying to disarm the factory alarm through the door key or just to unlock the door with the key? Its not uncommon for the drivers door to disarm a factory alarm but I would really be surprised if it was anything more then a switch that it connects when the key is turned.

Haven't had a chance to take the door apart yet, literally just picked the car up last week as a flip project. I'll see what I see inside the door panels, but from the outside, it looks like they tried to pry the entire thing out. The outer edges of the cylinder are raised and it wiggles in its spot. Also when I insert a key, it doesn't do anything when I turn it. Perhaps the plastic tabs (that hold on to that rod that locks and unlocks the door) broke or something?

nope.... its literally a sensor that reads the keys chip. I have an extra one laying around just in case so I will snap a picture of it tomorrow before I leave and put it up here. It mounts on the back of the lock cylinder and reads the key's info. If the sensor goes bad like mine, when you try to unlock the car with the key it will set off the alarm. When my driver one went bad and my key fob died I had to unlock the car from the passenger side that way the alarm wouldn't go off. I'll see if I can find some more info on it. It's part of the Ford PAT System.

interesting I didn't know there was a coil in the door as well. I thought it was just a simple switch that made contact and disarmed it
