Patching it is a waste of time, time to do the PI manifold swap

What he meant by the PI intake swap was to install a PI (Performance Improved) intake. They were introduced on the 99 Mustang and a vast improvement over your stock Non-PI intake. There's a write up as one of the stickys in this form that will give you lots of info on this. Besides the intake giving you some added power the later ones have an aluminum cross over that reduces the chances of a cracked water passage. You still have to deal with the rear (heater nipples), that's where mine cracked.

You have a choice of either purchasing a kit from several companies or collecting all the parts yourself. The sticky in the forum will give you all the parts you need. I know there are several decent junk yards near you. I used to live in North Charleston and Summerville for about a 17 years.

You can get a factory replacement unit made by Dorman at advance or autozone. Same thing happened to me, and thats the one i got. It has the aluminum crossover with both sensor locations already in it (instead of only one like the PI units).

That is an option but at the cost of about 12 hp too. I've only dynoed 2 vehicles with a Dorman and both were down on what I've seen on average. While at a couple training sessions the topic of these intakes came up and also on some of our forums. It was pretty much agreed that everyone seen a loss compared to the stock piece whether it was the non PI or PI replacement. All you really have to do is compare them visually and you can tell the Dorman is just a cheap copy. Like many copies they fall short of the real thing. If you're in a pinch and that's your only choice then yeah, do what you have to do.

When I priced it out the PI manifold conversion with all necessary parts buying online it was still cheaper for me then the dorman unit at the local stores

Something else to consider

I had to have my car running the next day, so I had no choice. That was before I found this forum as well, if I remember right.
