Hello everyone, I'm looking for some input on my fuel pressure issue. Bought the car with the issue and it needs to be fixed before it gets tuned in April and DEFIANTLY before nitrous. Alright so the issue is that the fuel pressure drops too fast when the pump is turned off. Therefor causing the fuel to bleed out of the lines and back into the tank I believe. So its either the fuel pressure regulator has gone bad, I have a leaking injector (24lb injectors), or a line in the fuel pump has a leak and drains the fuel back into the tank. Whats the best way to determine the cause of the issue? The fuel pressure regulator and pump are original while the injectors are from a Marauder. What do you guys think is the issue or how to I pinpoint which is causing the problem?

Picture of the car for fun :p

I recently just replaced my OEM fuel pump with 340lp Aeromotive turbine pump. IMO since these cars are so old they should have both replaced.

I do believe that you have a return less system. Therefore the PPRV is meant to hold pressure in the lines at all times. However there is a thing such as a pprv delete that supercharged or high hp 2v's do in order to release fuel pressure spikes on quick shifts. In that case it would not affect your driveabliliy...the PPRV is in the fuel pump. Are the injectors the exact same size as stock? If not have they been tuned for? There may be a problem with the frps. Or there may be a problem with the fuel pump. But my recommendation to all with fuel problems is to start with a fuel filter. If those are not changed regularly they can pose pressure problems. Good luck and let us know!

Only late year 98's had a "sorta" returnless fuel system, early model year builds still retained a "sorta" return fuel system, while some cars had a bastardized concoction of both.

OP, what is your concern with the fuel pressure bleeding off when the car has been shut off?

the first place i would start is the Regulator (if your car has one) as it is the easiest item to replace at first.

After that, or if you dont have the cash to fool with it currently, drop the tank and inspect the internal plumbing.

The only way to find issues like this is to start tearing stuff apart and inspectin mg for them.

The fuel pressure bleeding off should not be a problem. My car has literally one extra turn over on start up after I did my pprv delete. I almost don't even notice a difference. I have an 01 with the returnless.

96 was a return system. you can swap regulators. i would first diagnose fuel pressure and datalog in live link exactly what the ecu sees.

I just went through a very similar deal with mine. The pprv was deleted and it caused the same issues you are having. I recently did the a 97 gas tank swap and solved all my problems. Pull the vacuum line on the fuel regulator and see if it smells like gas.
