will the darker orange colored gauge cluster needles work on the 94-98 cluster? or would it be easier to just use a red or bright orange sharpie on the back of my 96 needles?

fluorescent orange of 99+ needles :

night shot, as you can see painting the back of them would not allow enough light through:

The problem with using a sharpie marker is you can see the streaks left by the pen when it lights up. I would think the newer needles would fit but you would probably have to buy a whole cluster just for the needles.

they are not just needles from what I understand. They are specific weights and I thought if you had them confused/wrong that the gauge would not work correctly.

There is a percentage of us on this site that have done the sharpie trick and i've never had nor heard of streaks on the needles. Assuming you take your time. Just sayin it shouldnt be a problem, there are a few write ups.

i like the make of the 99+ needles better, the needle cuts off at the center black circle rather than coming into it. a wide sharpie allegedly does not leave streaks but i don't want them to be red, i want the bright fluorescent orange of the 99+ cluster needles. has anyone seen anyone color the backs of our needles to get that very bright orange rather than red??? I'm getting the custom cluster dials made and i don't want the needles to be the one thing really throwing them off aesthetically.

i've looked through a good number of those write ups on this site and others and the nail polish does not appear to allow enough light through at night. if anyone has pictures showing otherwise that would make my life easier.
