One of my friends has a bone stock 1995 cobra he has a crazy idea that he is going to put a x303 cam in the car with out any head work. I told him I thought he would have valve clearance problems but I am not sure because some people say no it will be fine and others say that you will have to shave the pistons...and then again all of the things I have read is about a gt and not a cobra. So I have no clue what to tell him. Anyone have any idea if that cam will work with the stock heads? He want to use that cam because it is a bigger cam and he wants to do alot of top end work once he get married about a year from now. He has the cam now and wants to go ahead put it in if it will work...

Uh... I believe you can put an x303 cam in on stock gt40 heads on a cobra, but I don't think you can do it with the stock 1.7 rockers. I would guess you'd have to drop down to a 1.6 RR to be able to use that cam.

Yea, it's a big'un, and don't quote me on what I said, that's just what I've heard. I forget what max lift is on gt40 heads.

With the Cobra 1.7 rockers he'll be pushing .576 lift, which is more than i'd wanna push with the stock top end. i doubt the stock valve springs could even handle such lift. The cam has 224 duration @ 050 so it's not that aggressive in the duration department. I'd sell the cam and get something more friendly, maybe the Steeda #19 :dancing6:
