so i paid a visit to my friends smog shop today and i found out a few things:
1) i can perform smog tests. all i need to do is spend $4k on getting my license. lol :hammer:
2) my car still passes smog!!!
3) the vin # on the ECU will not match the VIN number the DMV has on file, but the smog tech wont be able to readily tell unless he actually compares the two numbers. the complications come when the DMV compares the two and realize they dont match, in which case they can then investigate the smog shop (thinking they were doing a shady smog shop) and then they can go after the owner of the car for an illegal swap.
you are pretty much either stuck with the GT ECU+Tune, or you have to do the swap legally, which means you have to get it registered and inspected by the DMV, which means you have to keep it stock until it gets inspected. on the bright side, people cant really tell the difference between a GT engine and Cobra engine by scanning the GT ECU. for all they know, its a DOHC 32v GT
